Hiking Place / Bandung
Gunung Puntang
The lower Gunung Puntang recreation and camping area is more visited, while the ascent toward Puncak Mega (2,223 mdpl) is quieter. The lower area also contains remains of the historic Malabar radio station.
Why it is special
It combines a proper mountain objective with a significant piece of communications history. The lower recreation zone and the summit route are different levels of hike and should not be confused.
Local perspective
A mountain guide notes that the lower campsite is busier on weekends while the summit route is much quieter.
What to expect
Roughly 4–6 hours uphill to the summit in the route guide's estimate, with forest trail, sustained climbing and fog-prone conditions. The lower historic and camping area is much easier.
Best time to visit
Choose a dry-weather window, check the basecamp, and carry offline navigation, sufficient water and a headlamp if starting early.
